Firetruck
Jake had a nightmare last night. Apparently it had something to do with firetrucks. He was crying and crying and just kept saying "firetruck". It was so sad. I wonder what could be so scary about firetrucks. They come up a lot in our daily conversations. And firetrucks play a central role in several of Jake's books. But they are never involved in scary situations. In fact, they make housefires look like fun. The firefighters are always smilling, and no one is ever in danger. I wonder what he thinks a firetruck is.
For that matter, I wonder what he thinks a robot is. When he and I first started playing with blocks I would usually end up building what I told him was a robot. It would have legs, arms, and a square robot head with two eyes. I would make it walk funny and talk in a robot voice. Now when we get out the blocks he usually asks me to build a robot. He also has a set of PJs with robots all over them. He loves them. "Robots! Robots!" What the heck does he think a robot is? At least he doesn't have nightmares about them. I think robots are much scarier than firetrucks. Except for the Roomba.

Jake and Arjuna
Jake and his second cousin Arjuna had a lot of fun together this past weekend at Smith Mountain Lake. They're just about a month apart in age so it's been fun for us to watch them together at different stages. When they last saw each other in January they were really starting to interact more, and this visit they actually played together for the first time. They fought over toys, of course, but I also saw them take turns pushing each other on a toy dump truck. Here's a video of the two of them in a back room at church getting reacquainted. And, no, they're not drinking coffee. Neither of them needs a drop of caffeine. Jake found those empty mugs and set them up in front of the two chairs for them. Check out more photos of the weekend here.

Happy Easter!
Update (4/9): A few people asked what was making Jake laugh so much in this picture: Jake, for whatever reason, sometimes just cracks the hell up when he touches Sadie's hands or face. I think it blows his mind a little that a person that small is actually alive and not a doll, and that makes him giggle like a crazyperson, which makes me giggle like a crazyperson.
