Sadie's first baby shower

Ali and Sadie just left to go to our friend Stacey's baby shower. Stacey and Mike are expecting a little girl in a about a month. I just had to take a picture of Ali and Sadie - they both looked so cute (the theme for the party is pink).

Welcome Home Jake!

We missed you so much!

Sadie and my new camera

With Jake gone this week, it's been nice to spend some extra time with Sadie. Normally when I come home from work, I take Jake and give Ali a bit of a rest. By the time he's in bed, Sadie is either asleep or fussy. Tonight she entertained herself staring at the ceiling fan while we ate our dinner. Then she gave us some noises to let us know she could use some company. I picked her up and rocked her a little and talked to her about my new camera (see below) and she started giving me some cute little smiles. Ali snapped this shot of us while the poor Wizards lost another one to Lebron (pictured) and his Cavaliers. It was a respectable game, though, and if Jake had been here to shout "Go Wizards!" they just might have pulled one out.

Yesterday, my early birthday present arrived - a Nikon D40. Ali is notorious for giving me presents early and I am notorious for not being able to wait, so it all works out. So far, I love this camera. It is so quick and responsive, and takes beautiful portrait shots that only an SLR with a big fat lens can. I hope my little Panasonic isn't jealous. She's been very good to us, and will continue to specialize in being tiny, taking good stills and surprisingly good movies.

Here's our Panasonic FX01 taking a picture of our Nikon D40:

And here's the Nikon taking a picture of the Panasonic:

A side-by-side shot was not possible, and too much time and mirror angling was spent thinking about how to accomplish this.

Sadie's Post

Daddy hardly ever lets me use the computer - something about drooling and electronic equipment - but he's at work today so I thought I'd sneak on and check my email. Poppi and Gram took Jake down to the lake yesterday and the house has never been quieter. Mommy is still feeling under the weather, but I could tell she had a hard time getting used to the idea of relaxing a bit. Oh sure, I have my moments where I need attention, but I still enjoy sleeping most of the day. And with big brother Jake at the lake, I've been able to enjoy my beauty sleep without interruption.

When Daddy came home from work yesterday he and Mommy just kind of wandered around the house looking lost. I don't think they remember what to do with free time. The toys were all put away, the dishes were clean, there wasn't any food thrown on the floor....I gave a little cry just so they had something to do.

Later that night they both sat on the couch and watched something on the TV that didn't look familiar. It wasn't animated and there weren't any silly animals or clowns. I think they called it a "movie"?

I hope Jake is having fun at the lake. He can be a little rough with me sometimes, but I know he loves me. It's cute when he points out where my ears, mouth and nose are. I mean, it's not like I don't know where they are, but I can't really control my arms and hands yet so I let him show off a little.

Ok, gotta run. Mommy thinks I'm napping...

Some new pictures

There are two new links to photo sets over there (---->). One is a bunch of shots of Sadie in her Lazy-Girl recliner and one is a bunch of shots of Jake and Sadie together. Some are from when Jake insisted he join Sadie in her crib ("Need help! Sadies bed!"), and the rest are on the couch. Jake is rocking the diaper because he'd just come in from getting soaked in the neighbor's sprinkler with all the cul-de-sac kids. They thought it was funny when he jumped in the water spray with all his clothes on and that was all it took. Jake loves to entertain and repeated this trick until he was soaked and his lips were quivering.
It sure was a beautiful weekend. Too bad Ali came down with a bad cold/flu on Friday night. Jake and I played outside a lot, but it wasn't the same with Ali/Mommy inside on the couch nursing Sadie and a cold. She's still feeling pretty lousy, so Ali's parents offered to take Jake down to the lake for the week to let her recover a bit. Jake loves it at the lake and I know he'll be fine, but it's going to be a long, quiet week without him. On the upside, Sadie will enjoy some undivided attention, and will be able to relax without fear of getting bonked on the head. Speaking of little miss Sadie, we took a bunch of pictures of her this weekend and got some cute shots with her pretty eyes open. I'll post them tonight.
