Bathtime

We've had to give Jake a bath almost every night this week since we've been playing in the giant dirt pit across the street where Jamie and Craig's house used to be. They've dug out the foundation, and finally started pouring some concrete today. The guys usually clear out around 4pm, and then neighbors all come out soon after, either checking out their progress, or playing in the dirt (the two groups are usually broken out by age, but not always.) Jake loves climbing on the dirt piles, and then loading up his little dump truck while making this face and dump truck noises. Sometimes he and I walk down dirt piles holding hands, and if he slips a little he says excitedly: "Jake has roller skates!" He's a little obsessed with roller skates. He can spot a kid wearing heelys 10 Target aisles away. "ROLLER SKATES!!"

Countdown to June 25

Here are some of the custom-designed, limited edition finger-painted birthday party invitations that Jake delivered to the neighbors yesterday. I thought Jake did a great job (and I think Ali might have helped too). We're getting excited for Jake to turn two, but he seems uninterested so far. About this time two years ago, we were probably sitting around analyzing Braxton Hicks contractions and wondering whether we were having a boy or a girl. Time flies.

Happy Father's Day!

Jake was SO excited for Father's Day that he woke up bright and early at 5:30 this morning! He knew I wouldn't want to sleep in and waste a minute of this day. Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there - especially Mike and Jack.

Family Picnic

Today was the annual family picnic at Seneca Creek State Park in Maryland. The traditional Kickball game was played, and I'm happy to say I was picked first by my team captain, Hannah. Offensively, I think I only had one run, but on the defensive side, I did complete a nice double-play. In the end, our team lost.........but there's always next season. We did institute a new rule this year -- hitting a moving car with the ball counts as a home run. That added some excitement to the game, and to the people driving into the parking lot nearby.

Here's a shot of Jake and his Grandpa:

"Where's the house?"

Here's the excavator that was delivered earlier this week to tear down the house across the street from us:
Here's Jake learning about the difference between "small" and "big":
Here's what the excavator did to the house:

Here's what the cul-de-sac looked like at 7:15 am as we watched the house go down:

A new house will go up soon, which will be just as exciting for Jake. In the meantime, the owners - Jamie and Craig - are renting a house in Arlington. They have a three week old baby boy. Simultaneously moving into a temporary house, building a new house, and having their first baby: we wish them well.

Toys

Jake's always looking out for his little sis. Ali took this picture a few days ago after he decided to give Sadie something to play with while she sat in her Baby Lounge-O-Matic.

Quiet night

Haiku, anyone?

Except for thunder
The house is quiet tonight
Both kids are asleep

..............

Ali's parents left this afternoon and I think Jake was a little worn out from all the excitement of having them stay with us for a few days. He was pretty mellow tonight. He ate his broccoli (what a good boy), watched a little Cars, played with Sadie and then went to bed without any complaints.

Here's a picture of him playing helicopter over Sadie's head. No babies were harmed in taking this shot.
